Jim McLaren, founder of Golden Friendships in Clydebank, has been honoured with the British Empire Medal (BEM) for his exceptional services to people with disabilities and older people in Clydebank and Glasgow. This achievement was announced in the latest edition of The Gazette on 13 June 2025 – https://www.thegazette.co.uk/notice/4907097.

Established in 2017, Golden Friendships is a community-driven charity dedicated to combating loneliness and fostering inclusivity. Under Jim’s leadership, the organisation has grown from a small club to a vital community hub, offering over twenty weekly sessions and activity clubs that cater to individuals of all ages and abilities. Notably, the charity hosts “Red Ramp” events, for wheelchair-accessible entertainment, and has been recognised by Age Scotland’s national Member Group of the Year award for its efforts to alleviate isolation among the elderly.

Jim’s unwavering commitment to his community is evident in his hands-on approach which ensures the success of Golden Friendships. His dedication has not only transformed lives but has also inspired others to contribute to the well-being of their communities.
